Healthy Hooves acid buffering system maximizes the available copper used to prevent Hairy Hoof Wart. A triple buffered safe acid lowers the pH of any water (hard or soft) in footbath to 2.0 which allows for less copper (7-10 pounds in 50-gallon footbath) to be more toxic to bacteria than an entire 50-pound bag of copper sulfate. Allows for 500+ cows to use a footbath before a change is needed which saves the farmer money on the cost of copper sulfate and makes the cost of a typical 50-gallon footbath to be 6¢/cow.

Here's how it works:

  • Copper sulfate, when dissolved in water, produces copper ions, which inhibit bacterial growth. The more acidic the solution (lower pH number), the more soluble the copper sulfate is in water and therefore the greater the copper ion concentration.
  • As cows track manure into the footbath, the alkalinity of the solution is progressively raised (pH number goes up).
  • The patented acid buffering formulation of Healthy Hooves counteracts this progression to alkalinity, keeping the pH low (pH of 2-4) and therefore the solubility of the copper sulfate steady at about 85%.
  • You should get 500 cow passages per 50-gallon fill with 86% less copper going into the environment. Pre-cleaning may give even more cow passages.
  • You will see very little copper sulfate residue in the bottom of the footbath.


    • Healthy HoovesTM is lab tested and is being used on farms across the USA. Field use proves that at least 500 cows can use a single footbath with Healthy Hooves before a change is needed. All other acid based or formaldehyde based footbath products lose their power between 150-250 cows. Costs may vary by region/state.
